Penang LRT to start construction in 2018
Construction of the Penang light railway transit (LRT) project, which is part of Phase 1 of the island’s Transport Master Plan (TMP), is expected to start in 2018. According to Gamuda-led project delivery partner SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd, it will finalise the cost and alignment of the entire project by year end. Construction of the LRT is expected to start in 2018 and will take six years to complete, said SRS Consortium project director Szeto Wai Loong. The proposed Bayan Lepas LRT alignment begins from Komtar and ends at the Penang International Airport, running along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (LCE). The 20kim rail project is one of the first components to be implemented under the TMP; the other component is the Pan Island Link Highway, which is estimated to start in 2017. (The Edge Markets)

One-way ERL ticket prices raised to RM55 starting Jan 1
Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) has announced that its fares will be revised from the current rate of RM35 to the new price of RM55 effective Jan 1 next year. The rate will apply for one-way trips between KL Sentral and KLIA/klia2. This is the first revision since ERL began operations almost 14 years ago. This is a discounted rate as ERL had been authorised to revise the fare to RM64 based on the terms of the concession agreement. Discounts of up to 20% are available when using certain credit cards, and passengers are encouraged to buy tickets online, through the mobile app, and from ERL’s kiosks for 10% off. Touch ‘n Go card users can also enjoy 10% during the promotion period, and travellers can save RM10 by purchasing return (two-way) tickets between KL Sentral and the airport. (The Sun Daily)

Protasco bags RM300.5mil PPA1M Putrajaya job
Protasco Bhd saw its share price rise 1.25% this morning after announcing it had secured a project worth RM300.5 million to build civil servant housing units in Putrajaya.
