Property prices in many countries are really expensive, especially in busy urban areas and metropolitan cities. Well, imagine living in a little container home that is affordable, eco-friendly, adaptable, able to fit in the compound of your parents’ house… and can be shipped straight to your door?
That’s right. Although online property shopping is still a thing for the (maybe not-so-distant) future, modern technology and logistics have brought us this wonder of online shopping, in the form of a tiny pre-fabricated container home that you can add to your Amazon shopping cart, checkout, and delivered to your house!
No longer content to just deliver everything under the sun to your house, Amazon will now deliver you an actual house. Specifically, this “Pre-fabricated Tiny Home” by MODS International, which can be yours for just US$36,000 (plus flat US$4,500 shipping fee – US only).
The 320-sq ft tiny home includes bedroom, shower, toilet and sink plus a small kitchenette and living area. There’s also a large patio door which opens up to the living area, the price even includes kitchen appliances, furniture, heating, and air conditioning. Just hook it up to water, electricity, and plumbing connections and it’s ready to move in.
According to the Q&A section of the product listing page, the tiny home can be built larger according to your size specifications by combining containers. Concerned about the safety? According to MODS International, the tiny homes are built according to the International Building Code (IBC) which meets all building codes (except California where homes need to include fire protection and earthquake engineering). Satisfied buyers have left reviews saying “they are just like a conventional home on the inside” and “are very basic, but very affordable, given that you have the land to put them on”.
It’s the perfect solution when your parents want you out of the house, but they also want you around the house at all times; or if you’re not earning enough to actually afford to buy or even rent your own place.
Unfortunately, this wonder of online shopping and construction ingenuity is only available in the US. Imagine if this was available in Malaysia – you can buy a plot of vacant residential land, order several of these tiny container houses, get the utilities working, and viola! Your very own container mansion!
In the meantime, you might want to consider 3D-printing your own home instead. 😛
