The Building Surveyor Awards have been widely supported and highly recognized by the construction industry over the past four sessions. HKIS BSD is pleased to host the BSA 2023 again under the theme of “Inspiring Our Next,” which exemplifies the importance to inspire and influence the peers by impactful projects, with remarkable professional practices of Building Surveyors. To keep up with the trend of the wide adoption of innovative architectural technologies in the surveying industry, the Award adds “Research and Innovation” category to recognise innovation and technology practices that have a positive impact on the industry. In terms of awards, Best Stage Presentation Award, Inspiring Our Next Award and Heritage Conservation Award are newly introduced.

“The theme of BSA 2023 is ‘Inspiring Our Next’. It echoes the Government’s view on sustainable development and livable future, that developments should not meet only today’s but also future generations’ needs,” said Ms Bernadette LINN Hon-ho, JP, Secretary for Development, HKSAR Government.

“(The theme) not only promotes communication within the building surveying industry, but also encourages building surveyors to bring creative and innovative building solutions to the industry, inspiring more innovative ideas and seizing different market opportunities,” said Sr Paul WONG Kwok-leung, President of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors at the welcome speech. Sr Arthur CHEUNG Man-to, Chairman of The HKIS BSD believes that the award can recognise the contributions and outstanding achievements of the surveying community in the Hong Kong construction industry.

The competition opened from November 2022 to February 2023. A total of 28 entries advanced to the finals, successfully passed the first screening process, and competed for various prestigious awards. Our jury panels, constituted of veterans from academics and renowned industry professionals, assessed the 28 finalists’ projects by the following criteria: design, innovation, management, conservation, originality, application, sustainability, and/ or value enhancement. During BSA 2023, a Grand Award and six Special Awards were granted across four categories, including New Development, A&A and Conversion, Maintenance and Rehabilitation, and Research and Innovation. Within each category, Winners and Merit awards were also given out.

“Regardless of which accolades our finalists ultimately receive, they all merit recognition, having undergone rigorous assessments, including written submissions, site visits, and presentations. Their exceptional performance has set a remarkably high benchmark for the industry, and they are to be commended for their outstanding achievements,”  said Sr Kenny TSE Chi-kin, Chairman of Organising Committee of BSA 2023.
