Bukit Aman: Owners renting out property to gambling syndicates will face action
Police will take action not just on gambling syndicates, but owners who rent out their property for illegal purposes as well. “Prior to this, our focus was on the syndicates but now we will be taking action against all those connected to illegal gambling, including owners of premises who have abused their business licenses,” said Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed. He said action can be taken under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) and Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (Amlafta). Agencies such as TNB would be tasked with cutting off electricity to the premises used by the syndicates. Comm Huzir said every OCPD would also be instructed to identify and track down premises owners who assist gambling syndicates in their respective districts. (The Star Online)
Contractors warned after housing project delayed for 15 years
Stern action, including contract termination, will be taken against contractors who fail to complete projects under the housing and local government ministry within the stipulated period. Its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said a new unit under the supervision of the ministry’s deputy secretary-general would be set up to monitor all projects, especially housing. Zuraida also urged contractors involved in PPR projects to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at construction sites to deter vandalism, littering and crime. (Free Malaysia Today)
New campus set to become an iconic hub in Penang
Lifestyle education hub The Ship Campus, located in Batu Kawan, Penang, is set to open its doors to welcome the public in 2021. Hartalega to acquire Sepang land
Hartalega Holdings Bhd’s subsidiary Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd has proposed to acquire a 60.57-acre tract of land in Sepang, Selangor, from Kumpulan Tanjung Balai Sdn Bhd for RM158.31mil. The industrial land is a sub-divisional tract that forms part of a larger plot measuring 126.07 acres and is located adjacent to the existing NGC Sepang. The tract will be used for the construction of additional glove manufacturing facilities to increase the group’s installed capacity. The rubber glove manufacturer noted that the the Covid-19 pandemic has created an upsurge in demand for medical gloves. (The Star Online)
Malaysia’s first Kimpton hotel to be at The Exchange TRX
Hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a management agreement with LQ Retail Sdn Bhd to open a 471-room Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in 2023 at The Exchange TRX. It will be Malaysia’s first Kimpton hotel. The San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants pioneered the concept of unique, distinctive, design-forward hotels in the US. The hotel will be located within the 17-acre mixed integrated development being developed by Australian property and infrastructure group Lendlease, via a joint venture. The hotel will have three food and beverage outlets including a rooftop bar and restaurant and a deli-grocer café. (The Star Online)
