Many residents of Damansara Jaya and its surrounding areas of Petaling Jaya will fondly remember the bustling neighbourhood shopping mall and landmark that was The Atria Shopping Centre back in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
In 2007, OSK Property Holdings Bhd bought the property from Lien Hoe Corp Bhd, and it was later announced that a lifestyle retail mall with SOFO suites would be developed on the site. All 392 units of the Atria SOFO Suites were sold out within a day of its launch in November 2011, proving that the property was indeed a hotspot for buyers and investors alike.
Although it was slated to be completed in Q4 of 2014, delays to the construction caused the mall, now renamed Atria Shopping Gallery, to extend its launch until Q2 of 2015. With its sleek glassy facade and shiny new interior, residents in nearby areas have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the rejuvenated mall.
Mini achor tenants in the all-new mall are Village Grocer, CHi Fitness and Taste Enclave, while big fashion retailers include the first next store, one of UK’s largest clothing retailers, and Jerasia Capital Berhad, which houses MANGO. The MANGO store here is set to be the largest in Malaysia, occupying almost 10,000 sq ft. Dynasty Dragon Chinese Restaurant, which relocated from SStwo Mall, will take up 25,000 sq ft to cater to the dining and wedding banquet needs of Damansara Jaya residents. In addition to the major retailers, the mall will also be home to a variety of fashion, entertainment, convenience, and F&B outlets.
The inner roads around the mall were narrow one-way streets barely wider than two cars sandwiched together, but OSK Property has addressed the problem by widening the inner streets and making the surrounding roads one-way in order to ease traffic congestion. The mall also has 5 pick-up and drop-off points, and tripled the original number of parking bays to accommodate traffic flow to the area.
The soft opening for Atria Shopping Gallery will be on 28 May 2015 (Thursday).
