Recreational parks are very popular among city-dwellers, as they offer a fresh respite from the dust and noise of the urban jungle. These parks are great for unwinding after a long stressful day (or week), having a picnic with family members, or a quick jog or game of badminton with friends on the weekends. Let us bring you to some of Petaling Jaya‘s most popular recreational parks.

Update: A smoking ban has been implemented in Selangor public parks beginning June 1, 2017. Those caught flouting the law will face a maximum fine of RM10,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment. This includes smoking e-cigarettes.

While not strictly located in Petaling Jaya (the address is under Kuala Lumpur), its proximity to TTDI, Bandar Utama, and Kota Damansara make it a popular place for people to exercise and unwind with friends and family. Often known as TTDI Hill, the Lembah Kiara Recreational Park is home to a big lake with fish and tortoises, and the facilities include jogging tracks, exercise stations, children playground, and grassy picnic spots.

There are 2 tracks: the first one about 1km, and not too steep, great for casual joggers and walkers; the other track consists of steep inclines and declines for over 2km, where mountain bikers and marathoners love to train. One of the special features of this park is the hanging canopy walk, which allows you a fun experience while admiring the abundant fauna and flora in the park. Look out for the monkeys while at the park; there are a lot of them, and they are not afraid of humans.

There is a good track around the park for joggers and walkers, a pebbled reflexology track, gazebos for those who prefer to relax by the two small lakes, and a children’s playground to keep the kids entertained. Every 1st Sunday of the month, a farmer’s market is held at the park, a must-visit for lovers of fresh organic vegetables. On weekends, you will see lots of dog-owners bringing their pets along to have fun and mingle with other pet-lovers.

There is a good jogging track around the lake, and plenty of stone benches and grassy knolls where families can have picnics while admiring the view of the mini fountains that dot the lake.
