As the fasting month draws to a close, shopping malls all over the country are gearing up for the Hari Raya festivities, which of course include shopping, dining and entertainment promotions! In what is now an Estate123 yearly tradition, we’ll take bring you around to some of the Klang Valley’s most popular shopping malls to see what ideas and themes they’ve brought out to decorate their malls for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

After all, if you’re going Raya shopping, you might as well dress your best and take as many memorable pics with your friends and family, right? 😉

Suria KLCC
16 June – 19 July
Suria KLCC’s centre court is transformed into a traditional village fruit orchard, complete with a northern-style kampung house as well as replicas of mango and durian trees along with baskets of fruits. The kampung house comes complete with furniture as well as traditional brass and silver materials while beneath the house is an empty area where clothes are dried and an old bicycle is parked. The star of the show at Suria KLCC, however, is outside at the KLCC Esplanade (fountain area) where a giant 21-metre-tall ketupat structure has been certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as the tallest ketupat decoration in Malaysia for 2016.

Pavilion KL
16 June – 10 July
This Hari Raya, Pavilion KL’s “Laman Idaman” lets shoppers experience a radiant celebration of the true Malaysian festival at the Centre Court where an illuminating garden of traditions await. Tap your feet to the rhythm of traditional instrumental tunes and sway along to the additive tunes of Tarian Idaman Raya performances. Prefer snapping photos? The larger-than-life decorations will make you feel like you’re Alice In Wonderland – or in this case, Siti Di Dunia Ajaib perhaps. With the huge selection of shopping, entertainment, and food and drink outlets in Pavilion, there’s plenty to keep you occupied for the entire day there!

Sunway Pyramid
17 June – 10 July
Turn back the clock and get your psychedelic groove on this festive season at Sunway Pyramid’s “Pop Yeh Yeh Raya” celebration this Aidilfitri! Sunway Pyramid’s Orange Concourse is transformed into a retro wonderland, paying homage to the mid 1960s. Hang out at the Raya Pop Yeh Yeh town square and check out snippets of Tayangan Filem Klasik (classic films) at the Panggong while enjoying some throwback snacks! Not only that, shoppers can redeem vouchers to get a complimentary hair styling ala sixties at the themed barber shop, take fabulous selfies at the various photo-op decorations, and print out free photos at the photo studio.

Sunway Putra Mall
17 June – 10 July
The classic/retro theme continues at Sunway Putra Mall with its 1960s-inspired “Raya Klasik” theme. Step back in time and immerse yourself in the pop colourd and nostalgic mood of yesteryear. The Main Concourse is surrounded by quaint vintage shop houses and decorative colourful lamps, where shoppers can browse for festive snacks and goods to celebrate Hari Raya. One of the things we love here is the black-and-white film reel floor – very groovy! 😀

Mid Valley Megamall
16 June – 12 July
A Beautiful Tradition for a Beautiful Season” is Mid Valley Megamall’s 2016 Raya theme, inspired by the delicate batik that’s steeped in tradition. Sample the delectable kuihs, browse the festive wares on offer, and bask in the lively Raya festivities at the quaint kampung streets adorned with colourful batik cloth. Shoppers can enjoy a lineup of events, ranging from traditional accordion and gambus performances by talented artists, to joyous guitar performances lined up to usher in the Raya mood and lively traditional Malay dance performances. If you’ve ever wondered how batik is made, there are also demonstrations by experts to show you how these colourful masterpieces are created!

1 Utama Shopping Centre

While 1 Utama’s decorations for 2016 may not be as flashy as past years, the mall still manages to wow shoppers this Raya with a magnificent 2-storey tall mosque replica at its centre court, with lots of bazaar-style booths around it selling various festive treats, clothes and accessories. There will also be a host of colourful performances and fun activities for one and all, as well as an Instagram contest to win cool travel prizes.

Paradigm Mall
17 June – 10 July
Follow the path down memory lane – quite literally – at Paradigm Malll’s “Memori Pulang Beraya” themed decorations for Hari Raya this year. Introduce your young’uns to nostalgic childhood games like hopscotch, carrom board, marbles, congkak and more at the various play stations, or challenge your friends to a match. 😛 Not only that, there are a host of fun activities lined up for shoppers, including Raya performances and batik fashion show, just to name a few.
