A couple of weeks ago, we introduced several recreational parks in Petaling Jaya, where you can go for a brisk run, picnic with family, or simply enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. This time around, our focus is on Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, where we find out some popular spots for local residents to exercise, relax and have fun.

 

 

Subang Ria Recreational Park

Known as the oldest recreational park in Subang Jaya, Subang Ria Park is the most popular among local residents. It features a big lake, well-paved jogging and cycling tracks, as well as open grassy areas for picnics and other activities. One special feature at the park is the open-air theatre, which can be used for performances, events and talks. It also houses a paintball park (TT Sports Park).

Okay, this isn’t a park, but it’s a well-known recreation centre in located in Subang Jaya. The 3K Sports Complex is a multi-purpose sports complex that houses facilities that include an indoor swimming pool, outdoor children’s pool, gymnasium, tennis and squash courts, indoor badminton courts, and ping-pong tables. It also houses the 3K Hotel and restaurant, a good choice for outstation visitors with business in the Subang area.

The Shah Alam Lake Gardens is very popular among local residents in the evenings and on weekends. Located in the city centre of Shah Alam, it features a man-made lake with beautiful landscaped lawns and jogging tracks. One of the unique points of this recreational park is the raised platform walkways at certain sections of the lake, which allow you to stroll above the water and see the tortoise and fish swimming about in the water. Sometimes you can even spot peacocks, wild chicken, geese and storks within the lake garden’s abundant flora and fauna. Facilities at the park include children playgrounds, benches, and kayaks for rent, as well as a water theme park (Wet World Shah Alam) and a floating seafood restaurant.

Skytrex Adventure

Skytrex Adventure is a popular team building, high elements, jungle canopy adventure park located inside the Shah Alam Botanical Gardens. Visitors who seek an adrenaline rush from zipline challenges or jungle canopy walks among the tree-tops can pay to experience 3 circuits of varying levels there, as well as facilities like picnic areas, a BBQ pit, and cafe.

One of the most famous and popular landmarks in Shah Alam is the Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam. Covering an area of 1,295 hectares, it is an area of virgin jungle/forest reserve combined with botanical gardens. The park has changed names several times (it was previously known as Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agricultural Park), and the forest reserve itself is called Bukit Cerakah Forest Reserve. There are many attractions which include the Animal Park, Ornamental Garden, Spice Garden, Cactus Garden, Tropical Fruits Garden. One of the most well-known features here is the Four Seasons House, where visitors can enjoy a special controlled climate according to the current season. There are also chalets for overnight getaways, lakeside activities like flyfishing, bicycle and jogging tracks, camping area, a lookout tower and many other recreational facilities. Access to TBNSA is RM3 for adults and RM1 for children and senior citizens.

Denai Alam Recreational And Riding Club (DARC)

For those who are willing to fork out the RM180 annual fee for a family membership, DARC is a great place for families to enjoy unique activities like horse and pony rides, along with facilities such as the splash pool, children’s playground, outdoor trampoline, volleyball court, karaoke, and gym. Members also enjoy special rates for horse riding lessons, archery, motocross, chalet, paintball and F&B. Special events like birthday parties, media launches, and weddings can be held there. Although the entry fee for a one-time visit is quite pricey, residents around the area will definitely find it the perfect place to enjoy family-bonding time.
