SP Setia bags 3 FIABCI awards
Property developer SP Setia Bhd has once again been honoured with a World Gold Award at the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards 2019 – this time for the Setia SPICE development in Penang. The group received the prestigious award under the Purpose-Built category, marking SP Setia’s 11th World Gold award win to-date. It also bagged two World Silver Awards – for Parque Melbourne in the Residential High-Rise Category and Circus West Village at Battersea Power Station, London in the Residential Mid-Rise Category. With the latest awards, SP Setia has also made history by becoming the first ever company to receive three FIABCI awards for projects located in three different continents in a single year. Taobao and Malaysia’s Atap.co launch new retail concept furniture store
Taobao, a social commerce marketplace under China’s Alibaba Group, and Atap.co, a Malaysin online home design platform, unveiled the first Taobao Home Experience Centre at The Square, Jaya One, in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The new retail concept store is the result of a partnership with Taobao’s home & living channel Jiyoujia, which offers home and living products curated from items on the Taobao platform. The 4500 sq ft Experience Centre will allow Malaysian shoppers to see, touch and feel products from Jiyoujia, especially the larger items, before making purchases online. The one-stop solution store, managed by Atap.co, offers in-home delivery and installation services fulfilled by certified professional vendors and installers at a nominal charge. (Digital News Asia)
IOI Group chief Lee Shin Cheng dies aged 79
Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng died on Saturday at the age of 79, according to media reports. The IOI Group executive chairman had been due to retire upon his 80th birthday on Monday. The cause of his death was not reported but details of Lee’s funeral will be announced soon. Lee was father-in-law to Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin who married his youngest son this year. In the Forbes list of billionaires this year, Lee had been the fifth richest man in the country with an estimated net worth of US$4.7 billion (RM19.3 billion). (Malay Mail)
DBE Gurney to jointly develop affordable homes in Perak with related co
DBE Gurney Resources Bhd has inked a partnership with a related party to jointly develop affordable homes with a GDV of RM100 million in Perak. Its wholly-owned subsidiary DBE Development Sdn Bhd had entered into a conditional joint development agreement with Silver Homes Development Sdn Bhd to develop 482 units of residences upon 499 pieces of leasehold land, measuring a total of 17.23 acres in Kinta District, Perak. The affordable housing project comprises 268 units of single-storey terrace houses, 177 units of double-storey terrace houses and 37 units of double-storey shop houses. (The Edge)
Extra 300 PPRT houses with IBS technology this year
An additional 300 houses under the Housing Programme for the Very Poor (PPRT) will be built throughout the country this year, bringing the total to 1,800, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun. She said this number, which was above the original target of 1,500, was made possible with the use of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology. The government is continuing with the programme to repair 10,000 PPRT houses this year, she said. Meanwhile, Rina urged Bank Negara Malaysia to relax the conditions for rural youths to apply for housing loans. (NST Online)
